Year-Long Engagement
What is the YLE?
The Year-Long Engagement (YLE) is a special program designed for students who prefer to opt out of the traditional "10 and 3" CE credit system, which requires ten credits a year through three unique experiences. Through the YLE program, students learn purposefully about, become involved with, and make constructive impacts on a social, political, economic, or environmental issue of their choice. Students can work through a variety of modes, including (but not limited to) volunteering, creating, and advocating.
Who should apply for the YLE?
Students who propose a YLE initiative should be particularly dedicated to community engagement and should have a specific higher purpose they would like to work toward over the course of an entire school year. If you are currently working on a significant community engagement-related project and plan to continue doing so for at least the next year, you might qualify for the YLE!

The YLE is available to all sophomores, juniors, and seniors. In addition, freshmen who have participated in Knight Vision's CASE summer program are eligible.
If you're interested in the YLE, you should be ready to commit your year-long initiative! Students who are accepted to the YLE program are required to fill out a YLE Action Plan, which provides a blueprint of expectations for what they'll accomplish throughout the year. We also require that students keep a rmonthly log of their activity and progress.
How do I sign up?
Everyone who applies for a YLE has to fill out a proposal form. Proposals for the 2020-21 school year are due on October 19, 2020 and involve writing a 250-word response to a prompt about why you would like to participate in the YLE program.
